Stevie Wonder -Never Dreamed You Leave in Summer
I had to find out what all the hype was about regarding this annual
Stevie Wonder party hosted by DJ Spinna and Bobitto. This was the 2nd
year it hit San Francisco, and I admit, I’m a little late, since this
is the 5th / 6th year they are doing it up and Stevie is my favorite
musician.
The whole thing definitely lived up to the hype, from the vibe of the
crowd, to Spinna and Bobitto’s song selection, to the venue of Club
Mighty, one of my favorite spots in SF. It was also the first time I’ve
heard Spinna dj, and he absolutely killed his sets. Not that Bobitto
didn’t as well, but Spinna was touching up the Stevie tracks with
echoes and other effects to give the songs a special flare. Towards the
end of the night, with the crowd thinning out and the remaining
party-goers almost exhausted (3:30 am), Spinna did this routine with
“As” that was incrdible. He spun back the intro about 20 times,
building up the intro to the vocals each time, almost putting me into
hypnosis. I’ll always give props to Spinna for the time we were both in
The Sound Library in NYC, and he blessed me with the last promotional
copy of his first Solo Album. Spread love is the Brooklyn way!!!
Just a little more Stevie at the top to keep you going through these
first hard days of winter. Peace.
